Through advanced training and breakthrough research, we provide world-class care to patients with severe brain and spinal cord illnesses and injuries. Our expert teams work around the clock to monitor each patient’s unique brain activity and respond to needs quickly. Our Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) includes innovative technology to closely observe patient conditions, and a wide range of physician specialists on call to provide consultation and intervention as needed.

Our research physicians play a major role in brain injury breakthroughs, discovering treatments for stroke, aneurysms, brain bleeds and seizures. We join other institutions around the world to advance our understanding of severe brain injuries.
The UC Health Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) is designed to provide around-the-clock care for critically ill patients with neurological or neurosurgical disorders. This 20-bed unit is the largest and most technologically advanced ICU in our region, devoted to caring for patients with brain and spinal cord injuries, 24 hours a day.
Our team includes neurosurgeons, neurointensivists, neuroradiologists, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, social workers and dietitians—all specialized in neurological disorders.
Our neuroscience nurses have advanced training and care for just one to two patients at a time to provide a high level of attention.
The most neuroscience experts in the region work right here, and they use some of the most sophisticated monitoring equipment in the world in the Neuroscience ICU.
