Transition to residency is hard with abrupt change in learning environment, professional identity, self-awareness, professional growth, and approach to learning. To ease this transition, the Coalition for Physician Accountability Undergraduate Medical Education-Graduate Medical Education Review Committee (UGRC) recommends targeted coaching starting in UME focused “on professional identity formation and moving from a performance to a growth mindset for effective lifelong learning as a physician”. We developed a framework for a coaching conversation to be used in a coaching session prior to the transition to residency to stimulate reflective practice, facilitate goal development, identify strengths, and encourage a growth mindset.
