Frequently Asked Questions

What aesthetic surgical procedures can improve the aging face?

There are various stages of facial aging that can be caused by the natural aging process, heredity, and lifestyle choices. Plastic surgeons have received special training to address all areas of facial rejuvenation. A Face Lift tightens and lifts the surplus skin in the face and neck. Procedures are available to improve the appearance of the forehead, mouth, neck and chin. Minimally invasive techniques are also available. Fine wrinkles and rough texture of the face may be best treated by skin resurfacing techniques such as laser resurfacing, chemical peels or other skin care treatments.

How is excessive wrinkling and bagginess of the eyelids corrected?

Eyelid surgery removes excessive skin and fat from both the upper and lower eyelid. Tightening the skin of the upper and lower lid may also be done. Eyelid surgery may be performed alone or in combination with face lifts or other types of aesthetic procedures of the face such as brow lifts, skin peels, laser resurfacing and Botox.

What surgery can improve the appearance of breasts?

The most common breast enhancement procedures performed are breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction.

Breast Augmentation is a procedure that can safely enlarge smaller breasts or restore breast size following weight loss or pregnancy. Implants may be placed in different positions depending on the physical make-up of the patient and her breasts. The implant may be placed into position through one of three different incisions: below the breast, around the nipple areola, or in the arm pit.

A Breast Lift is used when the patient is happy with the size of her breasts, but they have begun to droop due to aging or pregnancy. Various techniques are employed to accomplish a breast lift and the results are generally excellent.

Breast Reduction is designed to reduce the size of overly large breasts. Patients seeking this type of surgery often have multiple severe physical symptoms secondary to their large breasts including neck, shoulder, back pain and bra strap grooving on the shoulders. Many of the symptoms associated with breast reduction improve after surgery. This procedure is frequently covered by insurance.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

Liposuction is used to correct problem areas or fat bulges. A candidate for this procedure should be close to their ideal weight because liposuction is typically performed on areas where fat is hard to lose. Patients should expect body shape change. However, the fat removed through liposuction does not weigh much, so weight change should not be expected.

Will I have a scar after plastic surgery?

Scarring is unavoidable as part of any surgical procedure. A plastic surgeon has spent years of training mastering techniques to place scars in the most desirable location. Plastic surgeons will try to place incisions in discreet areas such as along natural body creases or where they will be hidden beneath undergarments. Most scars usually fade over time. The degree of scarring varies from person to person.

How safe is this surgery?

Thousands of people have plastic surgery every year without complications. However, no surgical procedure is risk-free. To maximize safety, ensure that:

  • Your physician is Board Certified and has least five years of surgical training with a minimum of two years specifically in plastic surgery.
  • The facility where your surgery will be performed conforms to strict safety standards and is accredited by a recognized national or state accrediting agency.
  • Your surgeon is aware of all drugs you are taking and your full medical history, including if you have had any circulatory disorders, heart or lung ailments or problems with blood clots.

The surgical facility will use experienced, licensed personnel to administer and monitor your anesthesia and your recovery immediately following the procedure.
