Singing Voice Therapy

Singing voice therapy is different than a typical voice lesson. This type of therapy focuses on rehabilitation and works by rebalancing the three subsystems of speech — respiratory, phonatory and articulation/resonance.

Our Capabilities

UC Health is the partner for singers at Cincinnati Opera and the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music because we offer the most current and comprehensive approaches to voice problems in the region. Our speech-language pathologists have extensive backgrounds in singing and also perform throughout the community.

Help Along the Way

Answers to Your Singing Voice Therapy Questions

Singing voice therapy is designed to rehab the patient’s injured singing voice by focusing on rebalancing the respiratory, phonatory and articulation/resonance speech subsystems. Therapy must be performed by an American Speech Language and Hearing Association-accredited speech-language pathologist.

It is not the same as traditional singing lessons.

Singing voice therapy can help any singer (amatuer, trained or professional) train their singing voice in a safe and controlled way following a vocal cord injury.

Vocal fold nodules, muscle tension dysphonia, vocal fold cysts and pseudocysts can be treated with this therapy.
