Laura Ngwenya, MD,PHD

Laura B. Ngwenya, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She is the Director of the Neurotrauma Center at UC Gardner Neurosciences Institute. She joined UC Health in 2016.

Dr. Ngwenya is a graduate of Rutgers University and Boston University Medical School. She completed her neurological surgery residency training at The Ohio State University in Columbus and neurotrauma fellowship training at University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Ngwenya’s clinical interest focuses on neurotrauma, which includes traumatic brain injuries and spine injuries. She also treats general neurosurgery conditions including degenerative disease of the spine, tumors of the brain and spine, adult hydrocephalus, and peripheral nerve disorders. She is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the National Neurotrauma Society (NNS).

She has published numerous articles on general neurosurgery conditions with a focus on brain and spine injuries.  She is actively involved in both clinical and basic science research in traumatic brain injury.
