Brittany Krekeler is a PhD-trained speech-language pathologist and clinician-scientist with more than a decade of experience in dysphagia science. She received her bachelor’s from Miami University and both her master’s and Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Krekeler is the principal investigator of the NIH-funded Dysphagia Rehabilitation Laboratory at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Krekeler’s research interests center around developing novel behavioral and exercise-based interventions to improve swallowing ability and quality of life for individuals with dysphagia. Her training in both basic and clinical-translational science sparked her interest in digging deeper to understand better the role and applications of exercise and skilled motor learning in dysphagia rehabilitation.
Dr. Krekeler treats patients with benign (non-cancer) dysphagia at the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute. Her expertise is in neurologically related dysphagia, with a focus on post-stroke dysphagia, but she also treats patients with post-surgical dysphagia and neurodegenerative conditions (e.g., Parkinson's, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Dementia). Dr. Krekeler brings her passion for emerging evidence to her patients by practicing the most up-to-date approaches to promote swallowing recovery.
In her free time, Dr. Krekeler is an avid foodie (she often connects with her patients about her love of food), spending time with her family, running, and yoga. A little-known fact is that she has completed a full Ironman triathlon and a handful of half-ironman distance triathlons.
