Farah Kaval has 15 years of experience as a licensed and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association-certified speech pathologist specializing in swallowing and swallowing disorders with a focus on head and neck cancer rehabilitation. She completed her specialized fellowship in voice and swallowing disorders in 2009 while splitting her training between the UC Health Voice and Swallowing Center and The Rehabilitation Services Team at UC Medical Center. She has a board certification in swallowing and swallowing disorders (BCS-S) and is a national mentor. She holds certifications in manual lymphatic drainage therapy and myofascial therapy for head and neck cancer, McNeill Dysphagia therapy program and Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile.
Farah earned recognition for her outstanding contribution to patient care by receiving the UC Health PRIIDE award in 2021, an acknowledgment of her dedication and exceptional service to the head and neck survivors she cares for. She also received the Elwood Chaney Outstanding Clinician Award, an acknowledgment for dedicated service awarded by the Ohio Speech and Hearing Association.
She supervises and trains speech-language pathology clinical fellows and graduate students. She has been an invited speaker for several graduate-level courses and multidisciplinary teams to advocate for the role of speech-language pathologists in the management of swallowing disorders and head and neck cancer.
Her clinical research interests focus on trismus and laryngectomy care.
In her free time, Farah enjoys spending time with her family, participating in interfaith activities in Cincinnati, encouraging better recycling practices, and enjoying her indoor plant collection.
