Braxton Forde, MD, is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist whose focus is fetal care or fetal therapy, in which he diagnoses and treats fetal conditions before the baby is born.
Dr. Forde cares for women with high-risk pregnancies and loves his area of expertise, as he has the opportunity to help mothers and families get through some of the toughest, yet most rewarding experiences of their lives.
In 2022, Dr. Forde won an award for his research presentation on prenatal surgery while the baby is still inside the womb to treat spina bifida—a condition in which the baby's back does not close properly.
As a resident, he was awarded employee of the month on the Labor and Delivery unit, which award included all doctors, nurses, technicians and ancillary staff on this unit—that year, he was the only physician recipient. Dr. Forde explained that to be nominated by multiple members of the entire unit meant so much.
In medical school, he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, in which members are considered to be dedicated to going above and beyond for patient care.
Dr. Forde is a firm believer in the importance of communication and believes that patients should never feel rushed during visits, makes a point to listen to all patient concerns and address those concerns and takes all the time necessary to achieve this.
The experience with which he aims to provide his patients is truly patient-centered. It is important to Dr. Forde that his patients feel informed and that their voices are heard. He encourages them to read his notes and to have MyChart set up so that they can message him directly with any questions or concerns.
Dr. Forde explains that the maternal-fetal medicine field is growing and changing every year. He feels that he and his colleagues at UC Health embody In Science Lives Hope, as many of the conditions that they see and treat today were previously considered to have poor outcomes. He hopes that research continues to improve maternal-fetal medicine care, and in 20 years, we can look back and be amazed at the progress we've continued to make through breakthrough discoveries.
Outside of the health system Dr. Forde enjoys spending time with his wife, Jennie and daughter, Amelia, and loves to hike, kayak and play golf.
