Region’s First Critical Life Support Helicopter
We are the first health system-affiliated air transport program in Greater Cincinnati to provide emergency transport of critically ill adult patients who are receiving ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) treatment.
When UC Health Can Help
Air Care & Mobile Care has provided the Greater Cincinnati area with specialized transport medicine services for patients in our community for more than 35 years. We are the first and only comprehensive adult ECMO ground and air transport service in the region. Our critical care life support helicopter is able to transport patients within a 200-mile radius from University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Our Unique Approach To Patient Care

Our state-of-the-art helicopters, operated by Metro Aviation, allow our team to respond to patients faster and more efficiently. UC Health’s Air ECMO program provides a rapid response and keeps patients from ever having to leave the region to receive the fast, cardiopulmonary care they need.

A New (Fast) Source of Hope for the Community
What is ECMO?
ECMO is a therapy that replaces the function of the heart and lungs for patients, allowing physicians time to treat patients suffering the most critical conditions. It provides short-term life support for patients with a failing heart, lungs or both.
Providing More Time and More Options
ECMO has improved survival for many critically ill patients and is especially useful when patients are not responding to typical life support equipment. It provides the critical care team time so they can deliver the necessary treatment to help save lives.
A Highly-Skilled, Specialized Team
The use of ECMO aboard a helicopter requires a high level of training and expertise. At UC Health, we provide an ECMO-trained physician in addition to the most experienced flight care team in the region aboard all ECMO flights to ensure patients receive the highest level of care.
