UC Health, Greater Cincinnati’s academic healthcare system, is committed to leading our community out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
UC Health physicians, nurses, clinicians and scientists have been on the front lines for 10 months: caring for critically ill patients within our hospitals; helping provide COVID-19 testing to the public in partnership with local agencies; and conducting clinical and scientific research into the novel coronavirus.
“At UC Health, our purpose is to advance healing and reduce suffering. We do this in a variety of ways: through the clinical care that we provide, the scientific research we conduct and also by sharing our unique expertise to help benefit the community,” said Christie Kuhns, vice president of community relations.
In August 2020, UC Health launched a phase 3 clinical trial for the Moderna vaccine candidate, and University of Cincinnati and UC Health experts played an important role in helping determine the safety and efficacy of a vaccine now being administered to millions of people across the U.S. UC Health is currently providing vaccinations to members of the community under Ohio’s Phase 1B distribution schedule.
Now, UC Health will provide that expertise to the community to help educate the public about how COVID-19 vaccines were developed and how they work. Resource materials and expert speakers are now available to businesses and community organizations free of charge.
The UC Health COVID-19 Vaccine Resource Toolkit includes print and digital materials. UC Health experts are also available to appear as guest speakers upon request. Businesses and community organizations can learn more by emailing uchealth@uchealth.com.
“To create herd immunity and put an end to this pandemic, we know that at least 70% of Americans must get vaccinated,” said Carl J. Fichtenbaum, MD, UC Health infectious diseases physician, professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Internal Medicine at the UC College of Medicine and co-investigator of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trial. “These vaccines have gone through a rigorous testing process right here in Cincinnati, and we know that they are safe, they are effective and they work.”
