On May 13, 2010, Mr. Rudy Giuliani talked about his experience of leadership during a time of change and crisis. The Drake Foundation presented Principled Leadership an event that honored the leadership of our region’s first responders – police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel – as well as showcased the leadership of Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care as the region’s premier provider of rehabilitative care.
On May 14, 2009, the Drake Foundation presented “Life After Stroke,” an event designed to raise awareness of the factors that lead to stroke and other brain injuries. The day included a morning professional symposium on stroke management, a luncheon with James Baranski, CEO of the National Stroke Association, and an afternoon workshop for stroke survivors and caregivers. An evening community forum at the Millennium Hotel featured Mark McEwen, former CBS weatherman, who is recovering from a stroke and recently released a book about his experiences, A Change in the Weather. Proceeds from the event benefited stroke programs and services at Daniel Drake Center.
In April 2008, the Drake Foundation hosted a symposium to promote awareness of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The event included a keynote address by Bob Woodruff, ABC News anchor, who suffered a TBI while imbedded with troops in Iraq. His wife, Lee Woodruff, was featured at a luncheon addressing family issues concerning TBI. Proceeds from this event supported TBI programs and research at Daniel Drake Center.
