Early placement of patients at Drake Center can dramatically benefit both the patient and the transferring acute care hospital. These benefits include reducing costly length of stay outliers, improving patient throughput and freeing up your hospital’s much-needed acute care beds.
Your acute care hospital is paid based on diagnosis. So while you may be paid the same for a patient who stays three days or three weeks, your hospital’s costs dramatically increase over time. This makes safely shortening patients’ length of stay with a timely transfer an important cost-saving strategy.
While Drake Center is also a licensed acute care facility, we are paid differently because of our designation as a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital. In fact, opposite of your acute care hospital, we are required to meet a minimum 25-day average length of stay. This designation, coupled with our ability to directly accept ICU and complex patients makes us an ideal post-acute partner.
