Message from Richard C. Becker, MD, Division and Physician-in-Chief, University of Cincinnati Medical Center Heart, Lung and Vascular Institute
Dear Colleague:
Greetings from the University of Cincinnati. We’re pleased to share with you Cardiovascular Insights, an educational resource with information on the cutting-edge research, clinical trials, training and innovative treatments that are advancing the field.
Our goal is to educate, inform, and collaborate with our peers, making Cardiovascular Insights one of the ways we create a dialogue with you – fellow specialists who seek the best ways to care for your patients. We strive to be the nucleus and portal for research and discovery, patient-centered clinical care and academic excellence. This is possible when clinicians from UC Health come together with researchers and educators from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine to promote the discovery, advancement and application of new therapies for the prevention and treatment of cardiopulmonary and cardiovascular diseases. Our clinical expertise includes advanced heart failure, structural heart disease, cardiomyopathy, valve-related conditions, cardiac rhythm abnormalities, and vascular disease at the micro- and macrovascular levels, to name just a few.
Through our scholarly and clinical relationship with the world-renowned Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, we are also able to track and treat cardiac disease throughout the entire continuum of a person’s life. This approach known as “the life cycle of health and disease” or “primordial cardiology” begins in utero with understanding women’s cardiac risk factors and extends through the neonatal, pediatric, adult, geriatric, and end-of-life stages.
It is my hope that Cardiovascular Insights will keep you informed of the latest advances to help us together meet the challenges and exciting opportunities facing the field of cardiovascular medicine.
I encourage you to reach out directly to the physicians, clinicians, scientists and educators whose work is profiled, and I look forward to sharing additional information regarding our scientific and clinical achievements in the future.
Sincerely,
Richard C. Becker, MD
