In November of 2018, the University of Cincinnati Foundation was notified that a founder of GIVEHOPE submitted a proposal to the Microsoft #EmpowerPossibility campaign with the idea of providing patients with tablets to use during their infusion treatments.

The GIVEHOPE founder, Susan Hunt, had a personal experience at the UC Health Barrett Cancer Center a couple of years prior, where she spent time with her close friend who was receiving chemotherapy treatment for pancreatic cancer. Susan saw a desperate need, especially to those patients who received their treatments alone, for some kind of entertainment to help them pass the time. “We’re just so excited. Most of us got tears (when we heard the news) because you sit there and you see the chemo patients who are by themselves with nothing to do and it breaks your heart,” said Susan.

Representatives from both corporate and local offices of Microsoft arrived Friday morning to donate:

  • 15 Surface GO Units

  • 15 Surface GO Type Covers

  • 15 Surface Mobile Mice

  • 15 Turtle Beach 50x Headsets

  • 15 Mouse pads

  • Charging Station – holds up to 30 devices

William Barrett, MD, director of the UC Cancer Center, said, “This journey is so difficult for so many people and this will help a great deal. We couldn’t be more grateful.”
