Bone Density

Bone density testing (DEXA scanning): Bone density testing is often used to screen for and detect the early stages of osteoporosis, a condition defined by a decreased density of normal bone. The most commonly used technique for determining bone density is called dual-energy X-ray densitometry (DEXA), which is a low-radiation procedure. Everyone should know their risk for developing osteoporosis, and anyone who is at risk for osteoporosis should have their bone density checked. Talk to your doctor about getting a DEXA scan.
