Revisional Weight Loss Surgery

While the vast majority of weight loss procedures are successful, we see patients from across the country who have undergone a weight loss procedure and have not been satisfied with their weight loss and health improvements.

If you have had a previous weight loss surgery and are not happy with the results, you are not alone. We can help you evaluate how best to address the problem. Sometimes the answer is behavioral and lifestyle counseling. At times, a new surgical procedure is the best answer.

The UC Health Weight Loss Center experts can assist you with getting the support you need and evaluating your options. If another surgery procedure is needed, it can be a very successful and rewarding option that allows you to maintain a healthier weight and prevent the onset of obesity-related diseases.

A surgeon will thoroughly evaluate each patient’s post-surgery health status to determine if revision surgery is a safe and viable option.

Diagnostic testing such as an EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) is required to examine the patient’s stomach anatomy.

Most revision surgeries are performed laparoscopically, however, if extensive scarring is present, a traditional, or open, procedure with an incision may be necessary.

Our surgeons perform multiple types of revision procedures including overstitch for bypass gastric sleeve conversion due to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) and lap band conversion to gastric sleeve.
