Posted Date: May 28, 2013

  • Investigator: Sadia Benzaquen
  • Co-Investigator: Tammy Roads
  • Specialties: Pulmonary Diseases, Lung Disease
  • Type of Study: Device

The purpose of this research study is to determine the safety and effectiveness of the investigational device, the IBV Valve System, when used in the airways of subjects with severe emphysema compared to subjects with severe emphysema that do not receive study valves. This study will help us determine whether those receiving the study device will have improvements in health.

Criteria:

You Are Being Asked To Be In This Study Because You Have Been Diagnosed With Severe Emphysema. Emphysema Is A Chronic And Irreversible (Cannot Be Cured) Lung Disease Where Lung Tissue Is Destroyed. This Destruction Causes The Lungs To Lose Their Natural Elasticity, Leaving The Emphysema Sufferer With An Inability To Get Air Out Of The Lungs. This Causes Dyspnea (Shortness Of Breath), Which Makes It Hard To Perform Many Physical Activities.
