UC Health Psychiatry

UC Health Psychiatry is nationally recognized as a leader in advancing the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral disorders. Recognized by Best Doctors in America and Top Doctors in Cincinnati, our expert clinicians are committed to using cutting-edge scientific advancements to provide the best mental-health treatment available to our patients.

Expert Psychiatric Services For a Variety of Stressors

UC Health Psychiatry provides general counseling services to adults, adolescents, children, couples and families who are experiencing emotional difficulties due to stress, behavioral problems, grief or a variety of other life events. We provide evaluation and diagnosis for each patient, along with treatment that can include psychological testing, counseling, psychopharmacology management and other various treatment options based on each individual’s unique situation.

Wide Range of Psychological Testing for Cognitive Disorders

At UC Health Psychiatry, we have several physicians committed to the care of patients with cognitive disorders as well as performing research to uncover underlying reasons for these conditions. Cognitive disorders relate to cognitive processes of the brain, such as memory and problem solving, and can range from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia to obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

We provide comprehensive psychological testing and evaluations when necessary in order to determine the best diagnosis and treatment plan for each individual patient. Our emphasis on understanding the biology of the brain, specifically in those with mental illness, provides us with the expertise to effectively manage these serious conditions.

Region’s Leader In Addiction Services

Evidence-based addiction treatment services are provided by our UC Health Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience physicians and staff. Our clinical services include medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction through our Opioid Treatment Program (OTP), which provides methadone maintenance, and through our office-based treatment program, which provides suboxone. We also offer FAA-approved alcohol assessment and treatment services.

As part of the Addiction Sciences Division (ASD) of the Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience department, our mission is to discover and refine medical and scientific knowledge and translate it into high quality, evidence-based treatments for people suffering from addiction-related conditions. Our ASD investigators regularly conduct clinical trials to evaluate treatments for cocaine, nicotine, and opioid use disorders. Participation in these clinical trials is available to patients in the community and serves to advance the science and treatment of addiction.

Discovery-Driven Focus on Mood Disorders

The Mood Disorders Program at the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute employs the most advanced methods to diagnose and treat adult and adolescent patients from across the Greater Cincinnati region. Our physicians are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of depression, bipolar spectrum disorder, anxiety disorders, cyclothymia and dysthymia. We also treat mood disorders induced by alcohol or substance abuse.

Our multidisciplinary team includes psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, neurologists, psychiatric nurses, social workers and pharmacists. Our nationally recognized program is a member of the National Network of Depression Centers, a network of 16 academic health centers dedicated to advancing research, treatment and public education in the areas of depression and bipolar disorder. The network also seeks to transform the field of mood disorders by making mental health assessments and treatment affordable, accessible and acceptable.

The Mood Disorders Program is a collaboration among the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati, the Lindner Center of HOPE and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Department of Psychiatry.
