West Chester Hospital Receives Verification as a Level III Trauma Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Chester, OH (Jan.3, 2018) — UC Health’s West Chester Hospital has received re-verification as a Level III Trauma Center from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma. This achievement confirms West Chester Hospital’s sustained commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care to the community.

“West Chester Hospital strives to be the community’s quality healthcare partner and a regional leader in solving complex medical problems,” said Tom Daskalakis, the chief administrative officer for West Chester Hospital, “the re-verification of our trauma center confirms our achievements in this ongoing endeavor.”

A rigorous on-site review of West Chester Hospital’s trauma service capabilities was conducted by the ACS Committee in November of last year. During the visit, the trauma team demonstrated an ability to provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care and stabilization of injured patients and emergency operations. Other criteria for sustaining Level III status include:

  • The prompt availability of general surgeons and anesthesiologists;
  • Providing back-up care for rural and community hospitals;
  • Incorporating a comprehensive quality assessment program; and
  • 24-hour immediate coverage by emergency medicine physicians.

As a member of the UC Health trauma care system, West Chester Hospital also partners with the specialist physicians who serve the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the regions only adult Level I Trauma Center.  Working together, UC Health provides patients access to the most advanced medical care in the Greater Cincinnati area and beyond.

Established by the American College of Surgeons in 1987, the Committee on Trauma’s Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals promotes the development of trauma centers in which participants provide not only hospital resources necessary for trauma care, but also the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. The formal Level III re-verification was presented to West Chester Hospital on December 20, 2017.
