For the second consecutive year UC Health’s West Chester Hospital is a recipient of Healthgrades® Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™, placing it among the top five percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for clinical performance. Healthgrades is a highly regarded independent source of physician information and hospital quality outcomes.
As part of the UC Health academic health system, West Chester Hospital brings research backed, discovery driven care to the local community. Hospitals that receive the Distinguished Hospital Award consistently exhibit the highest quality and outcomes, which directly benefit patients.
“I would like to thank every member of our staff for their commitment to our culture of patient-centered care. That commitment, coupled with our dedication to healing through academic medicine, has created the positive outcomes which have led to West Chester Hospital’s continued recognition with the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence,” said Tom Daskalakis, chief administrative officer and vice president for West Chester Hospital. “Our placement among Healthgrades’ top performing hospitals further highlights our leadership in providing outstanding patient care in our region.”
From 2013 through 2015, the recipients of the 2017 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence had a 26.2 percent lower risk-adjusted, in-hospital mortality rate across 19 procedures and conditions where mortality was the clinical outcome, compared to all other hospitals. During this same period, if all other hospitals performed at the level of Distinguished Hospital Award recipients, 160,322 lives could have potentially been saved. For example, patients treated at a hospital that achieved the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, had, on average, a 25 percent lower risk of dying from heart failure than if treated at a hospital that did not receive this distinction.
“Consumers are doing their research when it comes to selecting the hospital where they receive their care, and high marks in quality are a valuable differentiator that can set organizations apart,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer, Healthgrades. “We commend the hospitals that have received the Healthgrades 2017 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for demonstrating an unwavering commitment to high quality care for their patients.”
