Richard Shumway Named to UC Medical Center Leadership Post

UC Health has named Richard Shumway as chief administrative officer and vice president at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Shumway, currently executive director at University of Utah Health Care, begins his appointment Monday, May 1, 2017.

“Rick is a proven leader in healthcare management and has a reputation for putting patients first,” said UC Health Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Pete Gilbert. “We’re looking forward to working with him to continue to advance UC Medical Center and all of UC Health.”

Shumway’s career in healthcare began in frontline positions at Utah Valley Hospital before he shifted focus toward healthcare administration and academic medicine. In addition to his current and previous roles at University of Utah Health Care, Shumway has held administrative positions at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Listed in 2016 as a “Rising Star” by Becker’s Hospital Review, Rick has presented at many national conferences on topics including value-based care and service line growth. He holds a bachelor of science in public health from Brigham Young University and a master of health services administration from the University of Washington.
