UC Health’s West Chester Hospital and Chesterwood Village/Hillandale Family of Communities have teamed up to create the first annual Senior Health and Wellness Fair. Older adults are invited to learn more about specially tailored activities and services to support richer and fuller golden years on Thursday, Sept. 29.
Fall prevention education will be a major component of the fair. According to the National Council on Aging, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans. Experts will provide individual attention and screenings for medical issues which are known to cause falls, including hypertension and certain medications. Experts will also be on hand to provide balance screenings and important information about foot health, and to demonstrate the latest fall prevention exercises.
In addition, the fair will cover a broad range of topics, including:
- Fall prevention techniques when walking or playing with pets
- Fraud prevention and identity theft
- Resources to help those who are visually-impaired or blind
- Nutrition, hydration and exercise
- Home repair services
Attendees are invited to gather information and make connections with people from a wide variety of agencies which serve older adults as well as people with disabilities. Seniors and caregivers are welcome to attend this one-of-a-kind event.
