Robby Warren’s Story

Several disabled American veterans visited Daniel Drake Center from the Wounded Warriors Sea to Shining Sea cross-country bicycle team. These veterans fought in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Vietnam, and are dealing with disabilities that range from loss of limbs to blindness to post-traumatic stress. The vets rode bicycles, hand cycles and recumbent cycles, providing dramatic proof that disabled Americans can lead productive lives and accomplish remarkable athletic feats.

Among those who attended the Sea to Shining Sea event was Robby Warren, who undergoes outpatient rehab therapy at Drake Center. “Drake therapists have done wonders for me in the last year,” says Robby, who became a quadriplegic after a 2011 accident. “And I really appreciated the Sea to Shining Sea event. Meeting people who have been through similar struggles as me and seeing how far they’ve come was very inspiring. It added hope to the hope I already have about my future.”
