Immunology

The diagnostic immunology laboratory engages in diagnostic testing of humoral immune system disorders such as autoimmune diseases and immune suppressed states.  It also performs selected assays related to:

  • Infectious diseases (viral, bacterial, fungal)
  • Endocrine disorders (hormones)
  • Hematologic disorders (myeloma)
  • Neurologic disorders (demyelinating)

Somewhat aligned with the specialized techniques in chemistry and microbiology, the assays in this laboratory are based on antigen antibody reactions and employ a variety of testing platforms including enzyme-linked immunoassay, nephelometry, immuno-agglutination, immunofixation, and immuno-electrophoresis.
