Transplant Program Helps David Regain Life

Fifty-year-old David Waits, of Hillsboro, Ohio, knows what it’s like to lie in a hospital bed, day after day, waiting for a perfect heart donor match and a new chance at life. Waits received a heart transplant at University of Cincinnati (UC) Medical Center on Feb. 2, 2016 and has since regained his life with his wife, Carol, and daughter Brittany.

Louis B. Louis, IV, MD, chief of cardiac surgery at UC Medical Center and assistant professor of surgery, performed his eight-hour heart transplant surgery last year, which was the first in years at UC Medical Center.

On Feb. 2, 2017, Waits and his wife, Carol, celebrated the first year anniversary of his transplant at UC Medical Center with physicians, nurses and medical staff. Read the full story of David’s first year transplant anniversary. >>
